Reimagine Ravenswood Economic Opportunity and Community Development Plan

June 2025

The Long Island City northern waterfront is home to the Ravenswood Generating Station, New York City's largest fossil fuel plant, supplying over 20% of local power. After Rise Light & Power committed to transforming it into a renewable energy hub, the Office of the Queens Borough President launched "Reimagine Ravenswood," a community-driven planning process to guide a just transition to a clean energy economy in western Queens. Supported by NYSERDA and Rise Light & Power, the process engaged residents through workshops, focus groups, and surveys, producing site reuse plans, community revitalization strategies, and workforce development pathways focused on green jobs. Designed as a public-facing document, the final deliverable prioritizes clear, accessible communication so that residents, community members, and stakeholders can easily understand and engage with the proposed strategies shaping their neighborhood's future.
