Creatives Rebuild New York

Proposal Design | Playbook | Blueprint

August 2023 - November 2024

Creatives Rebuild New York (CRNY) partnered with advisors to strengthen the economic security and long-term sustainability of New York's creative workforce. Through policy analysis, strategic advising, and institutional design, the team helped shape a statewide advocacy agenda aimed at advancing equitable conditions for artists and cultural workers across the state's many creative fields, from visual arts and performing arts to design, music, and beyond.

Building on CRNY's three-year, $125 million initiative providing guaranteed income and employment opportunities to artists statewide, the work identified opportunities to embed creative workers more deeply into New York's economic and community development systems. This included advancing policies that support economic mobility, expanding access to benefits and unemployment insurance, and exploring new models for collective ownership, unionization, and workplace protections.

The engagement produced a Policy Playbook and Organizational Blueprint, designed to reflect the breadth and diversity of New York's creative sector and serve as a visually engaging, accessible resource for stakeholders across disciplines. A comprehensive analysis of state and city policy levers, paired with power-mapping to identify key stakeholders and reform pathways, gave CRNY the tools and institutional roadmap to launch a new nonprofit advocacy organization, ensuring the creative sector has a lasting role in shaping New York's economic future.
